Did You Know?
(Featured Service of the Month)
Not sure what to read next? The Library can help. The Scotch Plains Public Library’s “Find a Good Book” page (LINK HERE) is a one-stop shop for readers hunting for their next great title.
Get a recommendation from the librarians! Fill out a short form about your reading tastes and the library staff will send personalized book suggestions straight to your inbox.
Prefer to browse on your own? With your library card you can use NoveList Plus to find read-alikes for books you’ve loved and search by theme, tone, or writing style, and flip through Booklist Reader, the American Library Association’s digital magazine of recommendations for readers and listeners of all ages.
Free sites like What Should I Read Next? (type in a favorite book and get suggestions drawn from real readers’ picks, no account needed) and WhichBook (search by mood, setting, character, and plot) round out the toolkit.
And if the book you want isn’t on the shelf yet, there’s a simple online form to suggest a purchase of a recently published title, in print or e-book. Visit the page and let your library match you with your next favorite read.

Projects We Fund and Support
This is where the money goes....
Museum Passes
This program allows Scotch Plains residents to borrow admission passes to 15 museums across New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, including The MET, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Newark Museum of Art, or The Museum of the American Revolution. Free/discounted admission to these and other museums contributes to expanding community members’ access to educational and cultural resources.
Summer Reading
Our Summer Reading Program offer students in the community a chance to win prizes by reading books over the summer. In 2025, 656 readers completed the Summer Challenge! 2026 Registration is now UNDERWAY!
Yoto Players
In 2025, the Friends of the Scotch Plains Public Library funded Yoto Players for the Library. Yoto Player is the ultimate screen-free audio player for kids age 3-12+. Built to inspire imagination and independence, Yoto offers a world of stories, music, learning and adventure in a safe, kid-friendly way. Simply pop in a Yoto card and let the fun begin—anytime, anywhere!

Mah-jong at the Library
The Scotch Plains community gathered to learn this classic game of strategy, and skill (and a little luck), thanks to funding from the Friends. Originating in China in the 1800s, Mahjong challenges players to build winning hands from beautifully illustrated tiles drawn and discarded around the table. The game rewards patience, memory, and quick thinking — sharpening minds, sparking lively conversation, and creating new connections among neighbors with every round played.
And if there is community-building to support, the Friends will be there!
